Sunset at Loughrigg Fell, Lake District

Easy, accessible and rewarding are all things that describe Loughrigg Fell pretty well. It’s situated right next to Ambleside in the Lake District. You could walk from the town centre to the very top in little more than an hour. Then when you arrive you get a wide choice of views. You can look directly down Windermere and Coniston, the Langdale valley, Dunmail Riase and onto Thirlmere.

All this means that no matter what time of day you go, you’re likely to get some pretty stunning views.

Anyway, keywords out of the way now, it’s generally my go-to walk. Due to it’s proximity to my office and, outlined above, you can pretty much always rely on it for a decent view. These photos below were taken on a Friday evening after work. I decided to take a quick walk up as it was a nice evening. As expected, I was greeted at the summit with great views and a well-earned rest.

The photos turned out to be quite hazy when I got them on the computer. So, I tried to go for the classic Instagram look of overexposed and hazy, which I actually quite like with these.

Sunrise at Loughrigg Fell, Lake District

A few weeks later, I took a sunrise hike, this time via Todd Crag then up to Loughrigg Fell. The aim being to get a wide view of Ambleside and down Windermere. It also comes in handy for my job as I can get some nice views of our hotels from this point.

I’m sure I’ll be back up there a some point soon. With Autumn fast approaching I’m now looking for some new walks and vantage points around the Lake District. Maybe even tackle Helvelyn for the first time.
